The Power of Rest

behavior mindset rest success Sep 11, 2019

Tuesday was Suicide Prevention Day.  Did you know that suicide is the leading cause of death for 15-44 year olds, and that 20% of suicides stem from work related stress?

With this in mind, it is important to make sure you are not overworking yourself, and are taking time in the day to rest.  Here are some steps to take if you feel you need a mental rewiring:

  1. Do a rest check on yourself.  On a scale of 1-10, how much mental and emotional rest do you get every day?
  2. Take back control of your mornings. Do you have a lot of external distractions crowding your brain with unnecessary information? Try to not look at your phone first thing in the morning, and give yourself a few hours of peace and quiet.
  3. Take a day off. Rest and fun are a key way to keep yourself staying creative. Have a picnic, hang out with friends, visit the beach, or whatever may bring you joy.
  4. Figure out when you get your best ideas. Is it in the shower, while you meditate, or when you're listening to music? Hone in on this time and take advantage of it.
  5. Set a goal for how you want to feel for the day.  Consciously take steps to ensure that you feel the way that you WANT to feel and bring you clarity.

I personally have experienced the devastation of someone close to me committing suicide. Recently a friend - who could no longer fight a battle that she had waged her whole life, and over the past 10 years - 3 young people we personally know. Many people who others see as ‘strong’ are often the ones who don’t ask for help.

One of the key reasons I do the work I do is because I am absolutely passionate about helping people to recognise the amazing opportunities they have in life, and learning how to access a state of peace. I myself experienced anxiety and depression during a particularly hard financial time of our lives - at one point it was hard to even get out of bed. Over that time I learned how to dig deep into myself, and use tools that helped me to surrender, and then experience a deep state of peace. I learned that knowing how to ‘rewire’ your mind, and find peace of mind and heart - is a process that we aren’t taught at school. But it can be learned - and people can experience complete peace.

So now I’m on a mission - because there are too many beautiful amazing people who have so much to offer - and the world is waiting for you and many others like you to express your gifts to the world! I want young people to have a stronger sense of identity and hope, and those with a few more years under their belt to know that they can reinvent themselves - financially, mentally and emotionally - even if life has knocked them around.

How will you keep your peace of mind goal?
